Our Story
DivergentGifts began when my wife and I learned we were not prepared for the parenting required for our ND child. We repeated multiple patterns of mistakes, watching our child get expelled from school, kicked out of programs, and suffer from non-compassionate adults. We were repeatedly dismissed by doctors and therapists. Multiple attempts to “regulate” with medication were recommended. After the first failed, we knew there had to be a better way.
We struggled to find resources, information, and support. Over four years later, with stops at multiple therapeutic programs, our child is a thriving creative member of our community. Along the way, we’ve learned to force medical insurance to cover therapies, ensure public school systems fulfill their responsibilities, educated family members, evolved our own mental models and even taught doctors and therapists new things.
We hope DivergentGifts can be a resource for you or a loved one facing the overwhelming obstacles, that prevent a neurodivergent child getting the support they need, so they can share their gifts with the world.
